Several of my friends have participated in the Running Doe Topalong for a couple of years. In July I succumbed to peer pressure and registered for this round. Basically, you sign up and for six months you receive one patter per month from Running Doe Quilts. (There is a very small fee). There are monthly and grand prizes selected from those who finish their tops. I thought it would be a great opportunity to beef up my pattern stash, use some of my fabric stash and donate some quilts to my local guilds charities. I wasn't wrong!
Our July pattern(s) were Jasper and Jolene. Here's my quilt top finished...
The fabric was all from my stash, solids of course, and were inspired by a backing fabric that was donated to me by a friend. I will be donating this one to the guild for charity.
August pattern was Phyllis. I thought I might purchase modern Christmas fabric for it to make a throw for our couch. I took my bonus granddaughter (now 11) with me to the quilt shop while I was in Phoenix. She had very different ideas for my quilt! She selected a cute Halloween fabric for the focus fabric and did a fabulous job matching up solids for the accents.
If you double stitch the corners of the half square triangles, this quilt yields 96 bonus HSTs! I decided to use use these and some extra focus fabric to make a baby sized quilt for our newest granddaughter.
I can't wait to bring these quilts to the girls when we visit next month.
September brought the Stargazer pattern. I decided to make this one from blue and yellow scraps from my stash.
